Mi sukcesis re-aliĝi al Esperanto-USA kaj UEA ĉifoje antaŭ la fino de la jaro. Mi ricevis hodiaŭ rememorigan mesaĝon de UEA pri realiĝo kiu enhavis ligilon al nova faldfolio pri tio, kion UEA faras por Esperanto.

Mi foje plendas ke Esperanto-USA ne faras sufiĉe por antaŭenigi Esperanton. Precipe, mi plendas ke Esperanto-USA estas "serva" organizaĵo kaj emas respondi. Mi kredas ke ni devas memstare agi por Esperanto, se ni volas kreski kaj sukcesi kiel organizaĵo.

Samtempe, kiam mi verkis la enketon ĉisemajne, mi devis agnoski ke Esperanto-UEA fakte multon faras. La servoj kiujn ni ofertas estas gravaj kaj la fakto ke la organizaĵo ofertas ilin donas iom da certeco ke ili daŭros -- unu el la plej gravaj problemoj pri la nuna kapablo de individuoj provizi servon pere de la reto estas ke, kiam tiu ne plu volas aŭ povas fari, la servo ofte malaperas.

Do, mi vokas ke ĉiuj subtenu sian landan asocion: aliĝu! Ankaŭ indas aliĝi al UEA. Ni bezonas internacian organizaĵon. Same kiel E-USA, UEA ankaŭ tro emas nur provizi servojn kaj respondi, sed pli kaj pli mi vidas kuraĝigajn indikojn ke oni rekonas la neceson agi.

The World Esperanto Association organized a Zamenhof Symposium in celebration of Zamenhof Day on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 15 in New York City. Speakers included Esther Schor, Arika Okrent, James Lieberman, Timothy Reagon, and Humphrey Tonkin. Video coverage of the event is provided in the pages that follow.

The international language Esperanto, intended not to replace existing languages but as a second language for international use, is gaining renewed attention from policy-makers in a world increasingly aware of the rights of minorities and the future of linguistic and cultural diversity....  Several political groupings and non-governmental organizations are pressing to place the international language question on the agendas of the United Nations and European Union....  In July 2007, the Nitobe Symposium on transnational language policy convened specialists on language policy in Tokyo, Japan, to discuss equitable language policy in Asia, including more extensive use of Esperanto, and its inclusion in current debates on language rights and language policy....  In July 2008, representatives of some 40 universities across the world where Esperanto and interlinguistics are taught gathered for a conference at the University of Amsterdam.... Use of Esperanto on the Internet continues to grow: a search for “Esperanto” on Google gives almost thirty million hits, and thousands of people are learning the language through such websites as lernu.net, which receives 120,000 visits per month.... An interactive CD was recently distributed in Poland in 364,000 copies in connection with the World Congress of Esperanto in Bialystok, and the authorities in Bialystok opened a new Zamenhof Center on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Esperanto’s founder....

Esperanto Day has been honored this year with a special logo at Google on Dec 15th. Esperanto activists had been petitioning for Google to recognize Dec 15th for months. There was huge excitement when it became clear that the logo was traveling around the world with the date change. Happy Esperanto Day!
